Climbing Escalade Canada (CEC) is thrilled to unveil the 2025 National Team Program Policy, a significant update designed to support Canadian athletes in their journey from national excellence to international competition. This revised policy was created following an extensive review process initiated in fall 2023, incorporating insights from athletes and high-performance (HP) leaders. It marks the first step in a comprehensive evaluation of our high-performance program, with a review of the Continuous National Ranking system up next.
Key Highlights of the 2025 Policy
- CEC Podium Pathway: This multi-stage pathway guides athletes through the stages of “Train to Compete,” “Learning to Win,” and “Winning for a Living,” offering specialized support tailored to each level of development.
- National Team Squads: The National Team will be divided into squads: the Elite, Performance, and Development squads, each offering tailored resources and training support aligned with their specific performance levels and needs.
- Performance Criteria: Selection for the National Team Squads is based on a clear set of performance benchmarks that evaluate competitive results, skill progression, and readiness for high-level events, ensuring that athletes on the team demonstrate the commitment and potential to succeed internationally.
The 2025 National Team will be selected following the 2025 HP Competition, which will take place at the Richmond Olympic Oval on January 23-27, 2025.
