Call for Nominations: 2024 CEC Athletes’ Commission

CEC is now accepting nominations for positions on the CEC Athletes’ Commission, a key body that represents the voices and interests of athletes in shaping the future of Canadian climbing. If you or someone you know is passionate about advocating for athletes and contributing to the growth of our sport, we encourage you to submit a nomination.

Current Athletes’ Commission Members:

  • Co-Chair and Speed Representative: Michael Finn-Henry (2024-2026)
  • Co-Chair and Boulder Representative: Babette Roy (20223-2025)
  • Lead Representative: Molly Dreher (2023-2025)
  • Member at-large: Shamus Boulianne (2023-2025)
  • Up for elections: Aidan Pinsk (Domestic Representative), Emily McDermott (Para-Climbing Representative)

 

Available Positions:

  • Domestic Competitor Representative: This role represents athletes competing within Canada, advocating for their needs, insights, and priorities at the national level.
    • To be eligible for this position. candidate must have competed at a CEC National event in the past 8-years, and must NOT be on the CEC National Team.
  • Para-Climbing Representative: This role provides a voice for para-athletes within the climbing community, ensuring their perspectives and interests are included in the development of our programs and policies.
    • To be eligible for this positions, candidate must have competed at an IFSC para-climbing event in the past 8-years.
  • Members at Large (up to 2 positions): These positions allow for general representation on the Athletes’ Commission, providing flexibility to address a variety of athlete concerns and perspectives.

All candidates must be at least 16 years old age at the time of the election, and hold a valid CEC Athlete License.

 

Role and Responsibilities

The Athletes’ Commission serves as a vital advisory group to the CEC, working closely with the organization to represent athlete interests and provide feedback on policies, programs, and initiatives impacting athletes. Members collaborate on various issues, from competitive structures to athlete support programs, and provide recommendations to ensure our sport remains fair, inclusive, and competitive.

Please submit nominations by November 11, 2024 to info@climbingcanada.ca. Nominations should include a brief personal statement outlining the nominee’s experience, motivations, and goals for joining the Athletes’ Commission.
