Speed Development Camp

Feb 6, 2023

CEC will host, as part of the 2022-2023 Speed National Championships, a Speed Development Camp.

This camp is open to all on a first come first serve basis. The camp will be led by our National Speed Coach – Libor Hroza, and will have two streams: one for athletes, and one for coaches. Born in the Czech Republic, Libor has competed at the World Level in Lead and in Speed for the past 10 years. He is a former World Record holder in Speed with multiple World Cup podiums to his credit, including two time European champion in speed climbing and a 2nd place at the World Championships in 2012.

Athletes participating in the Speed National Championship will have priority to register to the camp if they wish to do so. After a pre-registration period, the camp will be open to anyone (as long as they are 14 and older at December 31, 2023).

Why Attend?

This camp is for all experience levels for both athletes and coaches. Athletes will be split into each time slot based on their experience level to ensure everyone gets the most out of their development camp.

Speed climbing is knowing the subtleties of each move and practicing those so that it’s retained as instinct. Libor Hroza will work with athletes to teach these subtleties and make adjustments based on each individual athlete’s needs. Learn about “The Reza” and figure out the beta that works best for you. Already have the beta? Libor will help identify the weak spots in your strategy and give practical advice on how to improve. What you do off the wall is important too! Conditioning and endurance training as well as learning to conserve energy while going up the wall are key. Learn about training plans that will help you get up the wall faster and more efficiently.

Coaches will get a better idea of what is needed and looked for in speed climbing, as well as how to train specific parts of the route and what are some of the popular exercises to do to break bad habits on the wall.
