Assistant Chief Routesetter – National Championships
The CEC is accepting applications for the positions of Chief Routesetter and Assistant Chief Routesetter at each of the 9 National Championships in the 2019/2020 season.
Requirments
All CEC officials will be required to have the following training modules prior to the event:
- Respect in Sport: https://respectgroupinc.com/respect-in-sport/ or an equivalent.
- Concussion Awareness Training Tool or a provincial equivalent https://www.injuryresearch.bc.ca/education/concussion-awareness-training-tool/ or NCCP “Making Head way in Sport”
- NCCP modules – Making Ethical decisions and
- Criminal Record Check, including “Vulnerable Sector”
- Read and remain up to date on all CEC and IFSC rules and regulations.
Chief Routesetter
Job Description
The Chief Routesetter is responsible for:
- planning, installation and maintenance of all boulders and/or routes.
- communication and direction of routesetting team including assistant chief and all aspirant setters.
- communication with TD, JP and CEC Judges.
A detailed list or duties and responsibilities will be sent to successful candidates.
Experience and skills
Successful candidates will have the following experience and skills:
- IFSC accreditation (not required).
- Other National accreditation (USAC) (not required).
- Previous experience as chief setter or assistant chief.
- High level of personal organization.
- Ability to work with a group in high pressure environment.
- Knowledge of competitor field for event(s) applied for.
compensation
The Chief Routesetter is expected to be present between 2-4 days in advance of the competition depending on facility logistics
Compensation includes:
- travel and accommodation (to be arranged by CEC)
- contract fee for the length of event as follows:
- 2-day event contract = $1250
- 3-day event contract = $1750

The selection committee for Routesetting positions at National Championships is as follows:
- CEC series Coordinator
- High Performance Director
- CEC Athlete Rep
- CEC President
The selection committee will review all applications for Chief Routesetter using the following criteria in order of importance:
First Priority Criteria
- International setting experience
- IFSC Sanctioned events above the national level
- National setting experience
- Previous experience as Head Setter
- 5 experiences as assistant Head Routesetter
- Other competition experience, setting and competing
- Knowledge of the National competitive field
- Knowledge of the International competitive field and level
- Canadian citizen – use our opportunities for our setters
Second Priority Criteria
- Knowledge of the current IFSC rules and regulations
- Potential for growth as a routesetter
- Ability to mentor apprentice future head routesetters during the event

Assistant Chief Routesetter

- Canadian citizen – opportunities for our Routesetters

- Potential for growth as a Routesetter

- Youth Boulder Regionals – January 25-26, 2020
- Lead Speed Regionals – May 1-3, 2020
2) Nationals
- Open Boulder Nationals – January 11-12, 2020
- Youth Boulder Nationals – February 15-17, 2020
- Lead Speed Nationals – May 16-18, 2020 **
